Award-winning singer Kelly Khumalo is reportedly in trouble with the event organizer and founder of South African Heroines Awards Caroline Mosiamo.
According to Daily Sun, Kelly was booked to perform in Bloemfontein last month (August) at an event that was meant to honour women and those living with a disability.
The event organiser told the publication that she paid Kelly R30 000, booked a hotel for her, and also spent R6000 on alcohol and snacks that were requested by Kelly's rider.
It is reported that Kelly went to the event but refused to perform. Caroline told Daily Sun that Kelly chilled in her car, from there went to the hotel that was booked for her.
“I asked her manager if she could perform at our next event to make up for it but he told me Kelly wouldn’t because she spent money to travel to Bloemfontein... He didn’t say why Kelly decided not to perform. That means they are refusing to pay back the money,” the publication quoted Caroline.
A few days ago, a skincare specialist named Ashley Haripersad accused Kelly Khumalo of using him to lighten her skin complexion.
Ashley told Briefly that Kelly is not promoting his skin-lightening products to her followers on social media as agreed. He told the publication that he gave Kelly products worth thousands for free for several years
“My problem was that she used my products for 3 years. I was the person who made her the colour she is today,”
Responding to the allegations, Kelly told the publication that she assisted Ashley to promote his business. “First of all I’m not obliged to work with Ashley, I assisted him because I wanted to. When I met Ashley, I had various clinics and various skin lightening product suppliers that supplied me with skin lighting products, which he bad mouthed to me cause he wanted me to use his Dermoganics, Pretty Derm, Novus Skin, Alicia Skin solutions,” Kelly told the publication.
She added: “Ashley should be grateful to me for having pushed his business for him. Despite the fact Ashley would go MIA with people's orders, which compromised my brand's reputation."
Meanwhile, Kelly took to Instagram earlier this week to call out a man for joking about rape, "I've always known that SA is a sick country. But after yesterday I am very convinced that we need help if we can joke about something as serious as rape, knowing very well that rape is one of the serious matters we are faced with as a country," she said.
