Now, Khanyi is not really much of an open book when it comes to motherhood except on her reality show, Mbau Reloaded and her current reality show on Netflix.
She revealed that her parenting skills, differ from the standard parenting practices most of society had adopted and is not so strict when it comes to her 15-year-old daughter.
We got to learn a few things about this mother-daughter duo and one of the things is that Khanz has the freedom to live on her own. Khanyi has an apartment and next to her, Khanz lives on her own. She also says she wants Khanz to try out new things so she can learn her daughter.
“We allow Khanz to be herself, if she wants to try stuff, I mean anything… we let her try it. Cause we want to see who this person is,” she said.
One of her cast members Andile Ncube, asked Khanyi where does she draw the line because she is a teenager and sex might come to mind, “But then where do you draw the line? What happens when she’s curious about sex at 15?”
Khanyi gives a very eye brow raising response which left Andile shocked, “Virginity can be lost or it can be stolen. So lost is when you are ready and its a boy you think you are going to marry, you give it away. You love this guy, you are 15, you think you are going to marry him… you give it away,” Khanyi said.
“I said there’s no age for it. You can give away your virginity tomorrow night. It’s worse because you sleep in your own apartment,” she added.
Andile Ncube was not impressed by this response as well as another star Annie Macaulay-Idibia who said, “She’s too young. This thing didn’t sit well with me. I didn’t like what I was hearing. She is still young, she might not be able to make the right decisions. Regardless of how you speak with her, she’s still 15.”
Khanyi also once spoke about how she teaches her daughter abut body positivity when she saw her Instagram following which is a lot of Instagram skinny baddies.
Speaking to Pabi Moloi on The Morning Show with e.tv, she said, “She follows a lot of skinny baddies and I said, ‘my darling, baddies are not a real thing. You know, these baddies, after filters and everything, they probably don’t live the life that you live. You need to start following people that have a similar life that you have and things that you truly like so you need to change the people that you follow,” said Khanyi.
“How do you teach body positivity?” she asked in the middle of their conversation.
Now, Khanyi is a big advocate for skin lightening but she puzzled Pabi when she spoke about being positive with ones image when she herself changed hers.
"Anyone who has an insecurity about their body means there's a trauma that's stuck on to them. What I'm trying to figure out with my daughter is, is it a health thing or is it a personal thing and I haven't found what that is. Because I know she is confident but of late she just turned 15 and everything is about the body and I think it's social media.
"So I said to her, ‘show me the people that you follow, I need to know the people that you follow because Instagram is a vision board.’ As much as people think it’s just a thing to see what Pabi is up to, what you see is what you become."
