Even Lauryn Hill's biggest fans will admit that she's suffered from consistency issues from some time in her career. One too many no-shows coupled with a few poor shows have tainted the reputation of one of the most influential musicians in the modern times.
So when we found out she was coming to South Africa, the jokes about her bailing on the gig began. But she made it. And she performed a memorable set that would rank right up there with some of her best performances on the night. And everybody was happy.
Everybody, except it seems, the haters who really wanted to see this feel and that's exactly who Anele took aim at a day after the concert.
The outspoken presenter took to Twitter to write:
Some ‘let’s support each other’ sisters here wanted Lauryn Hill to fail so bad. I get the whether she will pitch on time jokes but the wanting her to suck on stage jokes...yeah we see you strong black feminist sister...we see you 😂😂😂😂

It’s Rami Chuene babe. And no, I didn’t want her to suck. Actually, I was crossing fingers that she doesn’t disappoint her SA fans. And she didn’t. May she continue on this new turned leaf. Thanks.

In the end, it wasn't about Rami, or about feminists (sorry hoteps, another time) - but really about simply learning to allow other kids to enjoy nice things.
Anyway here is Shekinah meeting her idol. This is a moment. My point is let’s not dilute other people’s dreams, by all means say what you will of Lauryn but making people feel less for wanting to go...that’s low. That’s low key bullying. That’s it on this matter. pic.twitter.com/1cDQL0NuAe
