According to TshisaLive, Citi Lyts was just hanging out with his friends when they were ambushed by a group of four men who opened fire at Citi, real name Sandile Nkululeko Mkhize.
Of the four, three of them were reportedly armed with rifles, and two of them shot at Citi Lyts. The number of times he was shot at is speculated to be 8 times.
A friend who opted to not be named due to this matter being investigated by the police, said the men pointed guns at all of them and one of the suspects tried to talk his 3 friends out of this.
The four men were apparently driving a VW polo, and when they were being chased by another car, they allegedly opened fire.
The friend said this to the publication, "He got shot. A VW polo came and four armed guys jumped out pointing guns at everyone.
"When they pointed the gun at Citi Lyts one of the friends tried calming the situation, saying 'guys lets not do this, what's going on?' Then shots were fired at Citi, in the stomach. When he fell everyone else ran away. As they were running shots were being fired."
His grief-stricken family was not only trying to come to terms with the death of Sandile's older brother Pro Kid, real name Linda Mkhize, but they now have to mourn the Vura hitmaker.
Speaking to DRUM, the Mkhize spokesperson said he died at exactly 12:30 AM, "They were ambushed and that is ambushed that is the best way to put it. They coupled up; four guys came out of nowhere, stopped them, and shot them in their heads. They fought as much as they can, and the guys shot them. I can’t confirm how many they were in the car yet, but this happened at Dube, Soweto,” said Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini.
“I am on my way to Jabulani Police Station now to verify if the case is opened. But by now it should be because generally if it is a murder case and someone is laying on the pavement when the police come to the scene it is automatic. We don’t know how to open up that type of case, I will follow up with the family also just to check if they have been contacted by any police officer. I want to find everything out and come back to you with detailed information,” he concluded his statement.
Tributes have been pouring in for the talented ex-Ambitiouz Entertainment signee.
A shocked Cassper Nyovest said he was with Sandile a week before this tragic incident happened. He said he was in very high spirits and was very supportive of him, as always.
Cassper slammed the country's high crime rate and expressed how people are not safe.
Although he and Emtee had a bit of an argument on Twitter over Roll Up music video, Emtee expressed shock over this.
Sjava just mentioned Sandile's clan names and they too were very close and featured on a lot of his music including Vura and Shishiliza.
Tributes continue to pour in for the star. Rest In Peace!
