Every week Mzansi stays glued to their screens watching the controversial reality show Mnakwethu, hosted by well known polygamist Musa Mseleku.

Even though the ratings of the series shows that a significant number of people tune in to be intrigued by the story line. However, after every episode, Mnakwethu tops the trends list and not for a good reason.

Every other post by social media users sees them promising to never watch the show again.

Host Musa Mseleku had caught the wrong end of the stick and is always put under fire for allowing the show to be aired on national television.

Mseleku, who also has his own reality show, Uthando Nes'thembu hit back at the criticism directed towards him; "I don't wait to take personal offence because Mnakwethu isn't my show. I'm only a host because I am also a polygamist. I also don't care for the personal slander because I am sure of who and what I am," he said.

Defending the show and its origins, Musa said that Mzansi is too 'westernised' to appreciate the message of the show.

Speaking to TshisaLive, he blames the lack of open-mindedness that South Africans lack to understand fully what the show is all about.

He encouraged people to read up on the history of the practice that many cultures have engaged on for centuries. 'If they (viewers) are complaining that polygamy, as portrayed on Mnakwethu, is somehow inaccurate, then they should at least learn the history enough to point out what needs to be changed."

He also went on to defend the men who come on the show to introduce their girlfriends to their wives. "Men have the desire to take a second wife, but are often too afraid to tell their wives...because their wives will threaten to leave them," he said.
