Last night, 18 July 2022 the third season of SABC 3’s popular drama series, The Estate made its anticipated return back to our small screens. As some of the much-loved characters such as Castro Kamanga played by Aubrey Poo, Jo played by Lorcia Cooper and Lwandle played by Jo-Anne Reyneke will make a return to the show, there is a new family in the Estate – the Nobengelas – and are anticipated to shake the daily drama’s storyline up.

Speaking to the media during the launch of the new season, the executive producer of the series Khayelihle Dom Gumede said that the storyline will continue to focus on hot topical issues that affect South Africans.
“Season three and four will be around the crisis of the government and governance. This season brings in the voice of many people who are above the bread line but still not thriving in the new South Africa. We know that we have an unemployment crisis in the country, of which is mostly the youth. We know that young people in South Africa are locked out of opportunities so telling those stories is incredibly important for us,” he said before sharing how some of the characters would be developing in this season.

“We have a really great spin on some of the characters that have been existing in this world. We’ll be seeing new love this season, love in places you don’t expect. There’s also heartbreak this season. There are some couples that we love who are not going to be together,” he shared.

Some of the familiar faces joining The Estate we got introduced to last night include Savage Beauty’s Dumisani Mbebe who joins as Melisizwe Nobengela, the man of the Nobengela household, his wife on the show is Lerato Mvelase as  Noxolo Nobengela and their children; Samke Makhoba as Gcinekile Nobengela, Siya Xaba as Vukani Nobengela, Anga Makhubalo aka Naak Muusiq who joins as Mzolisi Nobengela.
Melisizwe is a business mogul and political fixer. He is close to Castro and was forced to relocate his family under pressure. He is a master fixer and is set to take Castro to new heights in his political campaign. His wife Noxolo is a businesswoman that owns a successful interior design business in KwaZulu-Natal. Keeping her family together is her main desire and she’ll stop at nothing to do so.

Their children all have different personalities, Gcinekile is her father’s apprentice. Her goal is to win her father’s approval and become as cut-throat, if not better than him, one day. Vukani is a diligent high school student in matric. He aspires to be a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter like his uncle Mzolisi, however, his father is against this. And Mzolisi is always training and watching what he eats, especially before a fight. He was once a famous boxer whose career ended in shame, alcohol abuse and depression.
Other new characters include former Generations actor Moopi Mothibeli who plays the character of Mohau Kabi who has the township charm and is a smart, BSC Engineering student who couldn’t graduate because of outstanding fees. He is desperate to get his degree and get a job so he can get himself and his younger brother out of poverty.
