It seems MacG’s homophobic comments will still haunt him for years to come as he’s now been cancelled by two sponsors; Old Mutual, Studio 88 and suspended by SupaBets.

Though his podcast, Podcast and Chill with MacG is getting more subscribers and lots of attention, the former YFM DJ was trending again recently when it was announced that Studio 88 will be sponsoring his show but then changed their minds and made a statement to TshisaLIVE that it’s pulling out of the deal last minute.

The brand’s group marketing manager, Loren Lennox retracted the announcement which was made on Twitter by entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela that it would sponsor MacG’s podcast.

In a statement made to TshisaLIVE  Lennox said after offering MacG’s podcast four-episode sponsorship deal, they’re removing themselves from his podcast because of his homophobic comments.

Their statement read:

“The Studio 88 Group stands firmly against the harmful and offensive commentary and statements made by MacG during one of his recent Podcast and Chill with MacG episodes as same goes against our core values and beliefs as a company group in SA.

In light of the above, the Studio 88 Group wishes to distance ourselves completely from the aforementioned statements, podcast and its host/s. We have therefore taken the decision to terminate, with immediate effect, any business/sponsorship relationship we may have with MacG.”

The brand sponsored his show for one day on Monday, the 22nd of February before cancelling the contract with immediate effect yesterday.

In light of everything the podcast has gained over 10 thousand subscribers since Old Mutual pulled out, he’s apparently getting 600 average daily subscribers despite of brands cancelling on him one by one.

Old Mutual recently announced that they’re backing Nasty C’s podcast, which he will co-host with rapper and TV presenter Moozlie:

These were some reactions on Twitter:

"They dropped MacG and followed his footsteps!!"

"Is it because they dropped MacG?"

"The irony. These Brands Mara. This shows that Mac G's partnership worked hence they create their own Podcast."

“I knew it was gonna turn into a MacG praise and warship session coz people don't want to account. MacG flop and Old Mutual had to act.”

“MacG was sitting in his corner there, away from the lime light enjoying his time with people who understood him and his content. Someone decided to come after him kanti they are giving him more airtime. He must finish them.”

“This is what I want for everyone attacked by black Twitter. When they pray for your downfall, soar higher than the eagles. We all make mistakes, why must you pay for your error with your bread? It's already so hard to make a decent living in SA. No one must lose their jobs.”

“When South Africa eventually starts to respect Queer people, we will remember this.”
