Following the verdict handed down to R Kelly for his sex crimes, Mzansi celebrities including Unathi Nkayi, celebrated and wanted other people to stop listening to his music.
“To ALL my friends who think you’re going to CONTINUE playing R Kelly in my presence. TODAY IT STOPS. No more philosophical B*LL SHIT about you separating the genius from the MONSTER. It STOPS TODAY HMKAY...unless you LOVE being a trigger,” she warned.
But was her post hypocritical? Her followers seemed to think so as they called her out on her hypocrisy. Many assumed Unathi Nkayi was still close with media personality Somizi Mhlongo, however she revealed that she is not. Not only him, Jub Jub and rape accused DJ Fresh and Euphonik as well.
"Who said they're my friends?" hit back Unathi. After the abuse allegations levelled against Somizi Mhlongo, Unathi unfollowed him on Instagram.
Unathi and Somizi were very close during his Idols SA days as the two served friendship goals on some occasions.
Somizi might have lost Unathi as a friend but he still has his other very good friends Kelly Khumalo, DJ Zinhle and Vusi Nova.
After getting canned on Idols due to these damning allegations, Somizi's fans bullied Mohale and they stopped watching Idols SA. According to Channel24, Idols SA lost approximately 324 847 viewers.
In July more than R1 million people tuned in but after Somizi left, only 600 000 viewers stayed with the show. In their statements, Mohale said someone leaked the audio for their own personal gains. He denied leaking it but did say Somizi allegedly abused him, "Myself and the person in question had a personal relationship that was built over years and I felt secure relaying my experience to him having been assured that it was privileged. I never imaged that my turmoil would be exploited in this manner. Since the release of the conversations, I find myself stripped of my agency and the right I had previously reserved to tell my story when I was ready."
"I did in fact experience abuse at the hands of my estranged husband both physical and psychological. It is not my wish to seesaw my experience against his as he only has his conscience to reckon with."
Whilst Somizi lost on various sources of income, Mohale bagged his first ever radio gig! He is also enjoying his life despite going through a messy public divorce.
