It’s not so long ago that Thando Thabethe launched a social media campaign called #MakeItStop to bring awareness to domestic violence in South Africa and after the death of 22-year-old Karabo Mokoena it left South Africans shocked and peaked in the #MenAreTrash trend that featured gender-based violence thereafter came along the #1in3 and the #BreakTheSilence hashtag and now recently there has been a trending hashtag called #MeToo which also gives survivors of abuse speak out on their redemption stories in order to help others to speak out, we highlight celebrity abusive redemption stories.
Although this shouldn’t be just a trending topic but an everyday topic as in every six hours in South Africa, a woman faces a near death experience or is killed by her partner, some of our favourite celebrities have gone through it too and have played their part as public figures to open up about their experience.
Kelly Khumalo
South African superstar and singer Kelly Khumalo was abused by Molemo Maarohanye better known as Jub Jub Kelly Khumalo had spoken out about her abusive and social media was flooded with pictures of her busted lip and bruised nose after their altercation exposing the abuser.

It seems social media is a great platform to speak out as actress Nokuthula Ledwaba took to social media to speak out about sexual harassment in the workplace when she was just 19 years old in the acting industry and was harassed by a then 30-year-old married man who was also in the industry.
