The Miss Universe beauty pageant will be held today with 87 contestants competing for the crown. Among them is South Africa's Marilyn Ramos.
South Africa has been participating in the competition since 1952 and won the crown in 1978. Last year's winner, Melinda Bam, made it to the top 10 but failed to get further in the competition. Ramos shone in a tribal inspired butterfly outfit in the preliminary rounds of the Miss Universe pageant.
"So here it is. My Miss Universe 2013 National Costume. Proudly South African I stand. Thank you again Werner as well as our gorgeous Melinda Bam for this amazing piece. Thrilled with how this evening went. All glory to my Lord Jesus Christ," Ramos wrote on her Facebook page.
Ramos won the Miss South Africa crown last year, which qualified her for Miss Universe.
She currently studies landscape design and architecture at Inscape Design College in Pretoria, South Africa, and hopes to one day open her own fitness and wellness center, reports Latinos Post.
The winner of The Miss Universe Pageant receives one year supply of cosmetics, wardrobe and acting classes at the New York Film Academy.
The current Miss Universe, Olivia Culpo, will crown the new winner at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia.
