The most exciting part of SA Idols is when the audience and the viewers get to have their say. This week, for the first time in Season 9 of Idols, the audience were able to be the deciders as they chose the 5 male contestants who will be making it to the Top 10 of Idols. Our first Live Results Show last night marked the end of the Idols SA road for Jono Johansen, Philip Dube and Lee-Ron Malgas.

After the show, Lee-Ron posted on his Facebook fan-page: “So my #idolsSA journey has come to an end. @IdolsSA thank you so much for the indescribable & most amazing journey! I am truly grateful! It was a huge privilege & honour to be part of Season 9! A HUGE THANK YOU to EVERYONE who supported me and believed in me!”

Fans were also sad to see 20-year-old Philip leave. They tweeted:

During their last performances on Sunday, the judges had mixed responses for the three. Randall thought Lee-Ron was one of the best performers on the night but added, “that doesn’t change the fact that so far competition has not been that good.” But Gareth felt just singing a song well was not good enough for this stage of the competition.

Randall was frank when he told Philip: “Both you and your voice are simply too immature to pull off that song.” But Unathi felt he gave a good performance. “I was worried about you during Theatre Week but I think you are back and grounded. I truly hope SA believes in you.”

After Jono’s performance, Gareth said he was bored. “I was a little bored with song, the novelty wore off quickly,” he said. Randall told him he needed to step it up a few notches while Unathi advised him to have more fun on stage. “Next time you come out, have fun. People vote when they have had fun,” she said.

Musa Sukwene from eMalahleni was the first to receive the good news. He was soon followed by Benjamin Tainton, Innocent Mabushe, Sonke Mazibuko, as well as current crowd favorite, Brenden Ledwaba. The overawed singer took to twitter to express his jubilation at making the top 10.

This year's roster appears to be full of a wealth of talent already and we're yet to see what the ladies have in store for us! The top 16 girls will be performing at the State Theatre this Sunday and we're looking forward to seeing which 5 will complete the rest of the Top 10.

In the mean time, check out this video of some of the boys who are going home. Let's hope your favorite wasn't amongst them!
