The Wife’s Cast Dominate The DMVCAs Nominee List

After the Covid-19 pandemic robbed us of two years, the entertainment industry and many other industries are picking up where they left off in terms of events and other activities that consist of gathering a pool of individuals. This includes live shows, concerts, festivals and awards shows and the DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards are also taking over slots on our events calendar this year.

The DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards (DMVCA) hosted their media conference and launch last night as well as their nominations announcement and the Showmax original drama series The Wife cast are dominating the nominee list. This event is confirmed to take place on the 25th of June 2022 at Sun Arena in the Capital city of Mzansi, Pretoria. The awards which will be live broadcasted on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) in June will be hosted by Big Brother Mzansi host and The River’s Lawrence Maleka.
Three of The Wife thespians are nominated across different and big categories at the DVCA with odds for all of them. Mzansi’s national boyfriend, Kwenzokuhle Ngcobo who plays the character of Qhawe in the drama series scored himself the Favourite Rising Star award nomination while his co-stars, Abdul Khoza who plays Nqoba and Zikhona Sodlaka who plays his wife Mandisa on the show got nominated under the Best Female Actor and Best Male Actor categories respectively.

According to a press release by Multichoice, these awards remain a celebration of local talent and will honour and celebrate the top dogs - voted by the South African public -  in media and entertainment across television, radio, music, sports and comedy from the past 2 years.

This year’s DMVCA will consist of 13 categories, including special awards for entertainers who have made a noticeable mark on the local entertainment scene. These are:

  • Song of the Year
  • Favourite Actress
  • Favourite Actor
  • Favourite Radio Personality
  • Favourite DJ
  • Favourite Comedian
  • Favourite Rising Star
  • Favourite Sports Personality
  • Favourite TV Presenter
  • Favourite Music Artist/ Group
  • Personality of the Year
  • Lifetime Achiever (chosen by the channel)
  • Life Changer (sponsored)

Executive Head of Marketing for MultiChoice South Africa shared the excitement around the return of DMVCAs and highlighted that the fans are at the epicentre of this year’s awards.

“The return of The DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards is something that really excites us as DStv, not only are the awards a celebration of our extraordinary local talent but they also put the fans who are our consumers, at centre of everything as they are the ones who will have voted for the different winners.”

Other exciting nominees include the host Lawrence Maleka who, through his charm and wit is nominated for the Favourite TV presenter award, while DBN Gogo scored herself 2 big nominations for Favourite DJ and personality respectively, with newcomers Young Stunna and Daliwona listed under Favourite Rising Star nominations.

The public will be able to vote for their favourite nominated entertainers through the MyDStv App and on the Mzansi Magic website. Voting lines are officially open and will close on 11 June 2022.
