Abeokuta North Aspirant Ishola Withdraws, Backs Babatunde Tella for 2027

Politics

A political statement issued on Monday by Ishola was aimed at thanking supporters and party activists, while outlining why he has withdrawn from the contest for a forthcoming legislative seat. He praised the backing he has received since the start of his political effort, describing it as “truly inspiring.”

Quick facts

  • Ishola thanked supporters, members of the Irorun Movement Team, and residents of the constituency for their encouragement.
  • He cited consultations and deference to internal party consensus arrangements as the basis for stepping down.
  • He endorsed Hon. Dr. Tunde Tella (PhD) as the party’s consensus candidate for the constituency seat.
  • He said his focus on grassroots development would continue despite withdrawing from the race.
  • He indicated he will work with party leadership to help deliver victory in the 2027 elections.

In addition to thanking constituents, Ishola also highlighted support from senior figures, naming Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and the APC consensus governorship candidate, Olamilekan Adeola. He said other party stakeholders played a role by offering direction during his consultations.

“I want to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude for your unwavering belief in our vision,” Ishola said. He added that the commitment shown by supporters—describing their consistency, drive, and determination—has sustained him throughout the push toward the 2027 Ogun State House of Assembly seat.

He said the withdrawal came after extended internal discussions and careful consideration of how the party expects candidates and aspirants to align themselves. Ishola stressed that unity and loyalty within the progressive fold should guide every member, particularly when decisions are shaped by internal processes.

In his explanation, Ishola said that after multiple meetings and consultations with party leadership and key stakeholders, and after taking into account the party’s internal consensus approach and leadership instructions, he chose to step back from his bid for the seat. The message framed the move as an effort to respect established party arrangements.

Ishola then moved to back a different candidate, announcing his full endorsement of Hon. Dr. Tunde Tella as the party’s consensus choice for the constituency. He said he would coordinate with party leadership to strengthen efforts aimed at securing victory in the 2027 elections.

“In the spirit of cooperation and for the continued progress of our great party,” Ishola declared, adding that success would require teamwork and collective effort. He said he remains committed to working with party leadership across levels.

While confirming that he has stepped down from this race, Ishola sought to reassure residents that his involvement in community development would not end. He promised continued backing for the growth of Ogun State and for his constituency’s development agenda, even as his role in the electoral contest changes.

“My role in this specific race has changed, my devotion to my constituency remains firm,” he said. Ishola added that he will continue supporting development efforts for Abeokuta North State Constituency and Ogun State more broadly.
