Otunba Mrs Gbemisola Oredipe, wife of Otunba Tunji Oredipe, the convener of the OTO for Yayi movement, joined a statewide gathering focused on women’s participation in politics ahead of the upcoming general election.
Forum focuses on women’s role in public life
Mrs Oredipe attended the event with Lady Ronke Adeniran, Mrs Iyabo Onadipe and Mrs Alaba Mosuro. Their presence formed part of a broader discussion among women from across Ogun State on electoral involvement, political representation and leadership.
The forum was convened by Ogun State First Lady Mrs Bamidele Abiodun at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta. Discussions connected women’s electoral engagement with demands for a stronger role for women in leadership positions and government decision-making.
Calls for representation and community development
A key theme was the contrast between women’s work in building political organisations and their level of representation in government. Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele urged political leaders to create more openings for women through appointments and leadership roles.
She also highlighted community priorities that require political attention, including:
- Employment opportunities;
- Road infrastructure;
- Markets; and
- Schools.
Mrs Bamidele Abiodun called for unity among women and encouraged them to play a more active part in influencing political choices and election results.
Theme of unity ahead of elections
For participants, the programme placed political solidarity and representation at the centre of the discussion. The focus went beyond simply attending political events, addressing instead women’s ability to help set public priorities and contribute meaningfully to civic and political life.
Mrs Oredipe and her three companions added their voices to a gathering intended to bring women across Ogun State together. The event was held under the theme, “Stronger Together: Women Unite for Victory.”
