Power has been switched back on in several parts of Nigeria’s capital after an outage, with Abuja Electricity Distribution Company saying service has been restored to key locations including State House, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Lugbe, and Garki. AEDC said the return of electricity followed repairs at the Apo Transmission Substation, where a transformer had been brought back into operation.
Quick facts
- Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) reported that power supply was restored after an outage in Abuja.
- Restoration was announced for State House, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Lugbe, Garki, and other affected areas.
- The outage was linked to a fault at the Apo substation operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
- TCN said engineers were working on the fault before AEDC later confirmed supply had returned.
- AEDC attributed the restoration to the successful return of the 10OMVA Transformer (TR3) at the Apo Transmission Substation.
AEDC said it informed customers in a notice issued on Saturday night, following the earlier disruption that had plunged major areas of Abuja into darkness. The company pointed to the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s Apo substation fault as the trigger for the widespread power loss.
On Saturday, TCN released an update indicating that its engineers were actively working to resolve the fault at the facility. Later that same night, AEDC confirmed that electricity supply had been brought back to the feeders impacted by the problem.
In its statement, AEDC said Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc was notifying customers that service had resumed on the affected lines after the successful restoration of the 10OMVA Transformer (TR3) at the Apo Transmission Substation by TCN. The development underscores how grid-level equipment issues can quickly affect power availability across multiple districts in the capital.
