Oluwaseun Adeola said he plans to fold the advice and recommendations he received from former President Olusegun Obasanjo into his approach to governing if he wins the 2027 race for governor of Ogun State. Speaking to journalists after meeting Obasanjo at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Adeola described the engagement as productive, saying the former president laid out his expectations for the state’s development and offered guidance on governance.
Adeola said his visit was meant as a formal show of respect to a national figure whom he referred to as a “father of the nation,” describing the reception as warm. He said the purpose of the meeting was to seek Obasanjo’s support, blessings, and direction, adding that the former president provided all three. According to Adeola, Obasanjo spoke directly about the future of Ogun State, outlining what he believes the state must do to stay on course. Adeola said he and his team listened closely, took the counsel seriously, and would incorporate it into their plans and programmes as the 2027 election approaches.
He also thanked Obasanjo for receiving him and his deputy warmly, calling the overall visit successful. In a parallel engagement, Obasanjo, while receiving the APC governorship candidate, urged Adeola to remain disciplined and focused on his goals while also seeking divine direction. “My prayer is that your desires and your ambitions will be in alignment with what God has planned for you,” Obasanjo said.
Obasanjo then reflected on his own life, recalling that his early ambition was to study geology and work in the oil and gas sector, before those plans shifted toward a military path. He described the turn as part of what he said was God’s purpose, insisting that divine help guided him “every step of the way.” He said he was praying that God’s purpose for Adeola’s life would also be fulfilled, urging him to pursue what he wants to achieve with focus and determination, while leaving the outcome to God and the people.
After meeting another prominent figure in Ogun politics, Senator Amosun, Adeola spoke again to the press, presenting the former governor as a political leader. He said the interaction was aimed at strengthening consultations within the APC. Adeola told journalists that he had come to reach out to his leader to seek understanding and support, which he said had been granted. He added that he intends to return for a further visit at a later time when Amosun is ready to address the media, but maintained that the day’s meeting had been positive, noting that the turnout was impressive and that those present were speaking with one voice. He said the exchange amounted to what he called “victory” for the party in 2027.
Amosun, responding, emphasized the importance of unity within the APC, urging members to work together rather than encourage factions or divisions. He said the public’s priority was good governance and argued that party members should see themselves as one family. Amosun also expressed appreciation to party members and supporters who accompanied Adeola for the visit, and he called on them to keep cooperating. He said the meeting was not about seeking support because, in his view, support was already present, adding that the APC is ready to move ahead. Amosun said that when the time comes, the party would bring its plans together, review them carefully, and proceed accordingly.
Taken together, the two visits were framed as part of Adeola’s broader effort to consult with influential political leaders and stakeholders across Ogun State as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship election.
