Prince Abayomi Ogunjimi, national president of the Authentic Nigerian Female and Allied Sports Supporters Club (ANFASSC), has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to stand firmly behind Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle as he aims to bring the team back to the top tier of African football.
Ogunjimi said he is confident the Franco-Malian manager can steer Nigeria toward a fourth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) crown, arguing that the national team’s direction has been encouraging since he took over the three-time champions.
He cited Chelle’s tactical awareness shown during the recent AFCON in Morocco, where Nigeria ended the tournament in third place, and also highlighted the coach’s success in London, where he guided the side to back-to-back Unity Cup triumphs.
“Éric Chelle has shown glimpses of what he can achieve with this group,” Ogunjimi said. “Taking the Unity Cup twice and the work he delivered at the AFCON are strong signals that he can shape a Super Eagles team that is both solid and highly competitive.”
Ogunjimi further insisted that the federation should meet the coach’s practical needs, both on the football side and in terms of logistics, to ensure the right conditions for sustained improvement. “If we genuinely want the Super Eagles to return to the summit of African football, the federation must support the coach completely and provide him with every tool required,” he added.
Finally, Ogunjimi asked supporters to remain calm and continue to back Chelle throughout the rebuilding phase, stressing that patience will be essential as the process unfolds.
