Members of the All Progressives Congress gathered in Abeokuta South to back the party’s governorship contender ahead of the 2027 general elections, with local leaders presenting Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi as a proven choice for Ogun State.
Support rallies behind APC ticket
A correspondent monitoring the election said APC members trooped out in large numbers to support the party’s governorship candidate.
Speaking with reporters after the primary, the council chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Balogun Olaniyi Afeez, said Ward 13 was fully behind the APC candidate and praised Yayi as an outstanding politician.
Afeez added that residents of Abeokuta South have confidence in Yayi to steer the state to a higher level, arguing that he has the capacity to deliver.
In his remarks, he said the turnout reflected a deliberate show of support, stating that participants were coming out in large numbers because of Senator Yayi. He emphasized that Ward 13 would not stop mobilising for the APC governorship candidate and pledged that the party would work to get him elected into office in the 2027 general elections.
Claims of a strong record and a “consensus” choice
Former caretaker chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Ayomide Shomide—widely known as Ayshow—told journalists that Senator Yayi remains “unbeatable,” pointing to his track record as evidence.
Ayshow said he was not surprised by the large turnout, arguing that the senator had written his name “in gold.”
He said party members in Ward 13 came out in significant numbers to demonstrate their affection and backing for Yayi’s ambition to become the next governor of Ogun State.
Ayshow further stated that the party’s decision was earned through Yayi’s good deeds and performance, adding that Ward 13 would support him to win at the 2027 polls.
He also described the exercise as free, fair, and free of rancour, saying everyone affirmed Senator Yayi as the governorship candidate.
“It’s peaceful in Abeokuta South Local Government Ward 13 and in Ogun State as a whole. We are affirming the consensus candidate of our party for the 2027 governorship election, who is Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi),” he said.
He added that the ward remains fully aligned with the senator’s ambition, describing the support as unanimous.
“We believe in his vision that Senator Yayi will take Ogun State to a greater height Ward 13, Abeokuta South is behind Yayi and will are going to work hard to ensure he wins landslide victory at the polls.
Other leaders endorse, urge voters to prepare
Hon. Majekodunmi, the immediate past chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, described the exercise as peaceful and said the public affirmed Senator Yayi as the governorship candidate.
He urged residents across Ogun State to prepare ahead of the 2027 general elections and to mobilise massive votes for the APC governorship candidate.

With the endorsements delivered by local party stakeholders in Abeokuta South, the message from Ward 13 leaders was consistent: they say the APC ticket should be backed with large-scale mobilisation for the 2027 governorship contest.
