Babatunde Tella wins APC Abeokuta North primary across all 16 wards

Speaking shortly after the exercise on Wednesday, Babatunde Tella thanked party leaders, ward officials and members for what he described as their support and unity during the party’s primary process.

He said the outcome demonstrated the strong confidence that party supporters across the constituency placed in him.

“The results indicate a sweeping victory across all 16 wards. I’m genuinely grateful for the involvement of every ward chairman, especially the party chairman, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi, and all our leaders,” Tella said.

Tella added that the orderly conduct of the primary election and its final outcome were possible because of internal cohesion within the party after he was adopted as the consensus candidate.

“As soon as I was named the consensus candidate, everyone stood with the decision, and most aspirants stepped aside—apart from one. We give thanks to God for how things turned out today,” he continued.

Addressing the challenge raised by one aspirant who contested against him, Tella questioned the opponent’s political standing and connection to grassroots activities within the local government.

“The reality is that he’s not one of us. Even in his own ward, we don’t know him. I’ve been active on the ground in this local government for about 30 years. Someone who arrived yesterday cannot just defeat me. For me, it’s also an insult that I’m being made to run against him,” Tella said.
