Poland head coach Jan Urban hailed his team’s fighting spirit after they recovered from a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw against Nigeria in Wednesday’s international friendly in Warsaw.
Urban said the pattern of the match felt familiar from earlier games, adding that he remained confident even after falling behind. “The same kind of scenario happened again — the opponent scored. Still, I wasn’t worried because we were playing well. And we continued to play well after we conceded. It was a strong game against a strong side,” he told laczynaspilka.pl.
While the coach was pleased with the overall response, he admitted Poland could have been more disciplined in specific defensive moments.
“That goal could have been avoided without too much difficulty. Before that, the only real dangerous moment came from Kamil Grabara’s clearance. I understand exactly how everyone should react in that situation,” Urban said.
Urban also voiced frustration that his side struggled to stop Nigeria from turning a small number of opportunities into goals.
“The toughest part is that they don’t create a lot of chances, yet they take two or three. They’re ruthless with us. But it’s a friendly match, and it won’t be judged by what happened in games like this.”
Nigeria took charge thanks to strikes from Terem Moffi and Paul Onuachu before Poland rallied late to earn a share of the spoils.
