Sports

Head coach Justine Madugu has selected a 23-player roster for two upcoming international friendlies against Senegal, naming Rasheedat Ajibade as captain, Chiamaka Nnadozie in goal, and experienced forward Asisat Oshoala among the leadership group.

Madugu has also brought midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene back into the fold, along with forwards Francisca Ordega and Gift Monday. Additional call-ups have been handed to Blessing Nkor, who plays in Belarus, and Kafayat Shittu, based in Turkey.

The squad further features home-based options including goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi, as well as overseas-based players such as Rofiat Imuran in England and defender Sikiratu Isah in Israel. Defensive depth also includes Tosin Demehin, while midfield options include Halimatu Ayinde and Toni Payne. The forward line contains Folashade Ijamilusi and Joy Omewa.

Christy Ucheibe, Shukurat Oladipo and Rinsola Babajide are also included after winning domestic league titles with their respective clubs in the recently completed season.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will welcome Senegal on Friday, June 5, before meeting again on Monday, June 8. Both matches are set to take place at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne-Remo.

Senegal have been placed in Group A of the 2026 Africa Women Cup of Nations alongside hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya. Ten-time champions Nigeria are drawn in Group C with Egypt, Zambia and newcomers Malawi. The tournament is scheduled to run from July 25 to August 16.

The competition will also serve as a pathway event for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The top four teams will secure direct qualification, while the fifth-placed side will enter an intercontinental playoff.
