With Everton sitting in 12th place and effectively outside the race for European qualification, David Moyes still has one personal objective he hopes to deliver in their last Premier League outing at Tottenham Hotspur: ensuring his former club West Ham United avoid relegation.
Heading into the final round of fixtures, Spurs are two points clear of West Ham, who occupy 18th position. West Ham also have a poorer goal difference than their London rivals. To stay up, they must win at Leeds United on Sunday and then rely on Spurs slipping up against Everton to prevent the drop.
A draw for Tottenham against Everton would likely be sufficient for Spurs to secure their place in the top flight for another season.
“I’d love to keep West Ham in the league if I can,” Moyes said to reporters on Friday.
Moyes spent five-and-a-half years in charge of West Ham across two separate spells from 2017 to 2024, and during that time he guided the club to lift the UEFA Europa Conference League trophy in 2023.
However, the 63-year-old was clear that his main priority on Sunday remains improving Everton’s league position, with a finish inside the top 10 still within reach.
“It’s more important I get Everton that top finish and we get a few more million pounds because of our league position,” he added.
