Nigeria’s electricity regulator says power distributors improved cash collection in April 2026, even as billing performance dipped slightly. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) reported that the 11 distribution companies (DisCos) collected N203.61 billion from customers during the month, translating into stronger collection efficiency versus March.

April collection improves, but billing efficiency slips
In its Commercial Performance Factsheet, NERC said the DisCos received electricity valued at N302.96 billion and billed customers N252.43 billion over April 2026. Out of the total billed amount, the companies collected N203.61 billion, producing a collection efficiency rate of 80.66%.
The regulator said this represents an improvement from the previous month, with collection efficiency increasing by 1.07 percentage points compared with March.
NERC also highlighted that billing efficiency stood at 83.32% in April, a slight decrease of 0.57 percentage points from March. It linked the rise in collections to improved revenue capture for the month.
“Collection efficiency recorded an increase to 80.66 per cent, resulting in total revenue collection of N203.61 billion for the month,” NERC said.
Revenue recovery efficiency and company rankings
Beyond collection and billing metrics, NERC reported that the industry’s revenue recovery efficiency reached 82.11%. On a per-unit basis, the regulator noted that average actual collections were N102.13 per kilowatt-hour, compared with an approved average tariff of N124.39 per kWh.
Within the sector, NERC cited Eko DisCo as the top performer on revenue recovery efficiency at 102.09%. Abuja DisCo followed with 89.77%, while Ikeja DisCo recorded 88.89%.
