Nigeria’s state-owned NNPC Limited has lowered its premium motor spirit (petrol) retail price just one week after Dangote Refinery adjusted its petrol “gantry” pricing. A market check carried out on Tuesday morning found that NNPCL outlets in Abuja and surrounding areas have marked fuel down to N1,260 per litre, compared with the prior N1,335 level.
The change implies a reduction of N75 per litre at the company’s retail counters. The new rate was reported to be in effect at NNPCL stations on the Kubwa Expressway, in Wuse Zone 6 (Berger), and in Zone 4 within Abuja as of the time of reporting.
Timeline
- NNPCL cut its petrol retail price to N1,260 per litre in Abuja and nearby areas, down from N1,335.
- The move followed Dangote Refinery’s earlier adjustment to its petrol gantry price to N1,175 per litre on June 16.
- After Dangote’s reduction, retail fuel prices fell across Nigeria, linked to the reshaping of crude oil prices.
- Before the latest shift, an earlier check had placed prices at many stations in Abuja in the range of roughly N1,241 to N1,300 per litre.
