Arsenal vice-captain Bukayo Saka has pointed to one driving force as the Gunners prepare for Saturday’s Champions League showpiece: the chance to etch their names into the history books.
Speaking at a press gathering before the final at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, Saka said the squad have been given time to reset after a demanding week. He added that, in a match like this, the defining factor will not be sustained periods of control but decisive instances when momentum swings. Saka also credited head coach Mikel Arteta for setting the club’s direction, insisting the manager’s aim was to return Arsenal to the level they believe they belong at. The vice-captain described the campaign as a long road marked by setbacks, but said the team have continued to find their way back after difficult moments.
Saka then underlined the belief within the camp heading into the decisive contest, saying Arsenal have “enough fire” to compete at the highest level on the biggest stage. He suggested that the motivation to make history is already more than sufficient, while acknowledging his own experience of the journey with the club through both highs and lows. Reflecting on the backing Arsenal’s supporters have shown throughout, Saka stressed that the priority now is concentration on the final itself, with the prospect that a London celebration on Sunday could become even wilder if the team deliver their goal.
