SportyTV has secured a three-year deal to show National Basketball Association games completely free-to-air in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa, bringing NBA action to viewers via Sporty TV’s free broadcast platform.
Deal details and where it will be available
The rollout begins tomorrow with Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semi-finals, featuring the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Detroit Pistons.
For the rest of the current season, SportyTV will carry eight playoff and championship fixtures, including NBA Finals games.
From next season through September 2028, the broadcaster will present a full NBA schedule across Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa, aiming to ensure fans can reliably access major league matchups and marquee events on a free-to-air basis.
What viewers can watch
The package is built around a mix of marquee regular-season and postseason programming, with a focus on major dates and star matchups.
- Weekly NBA Saturday games
- NBA Christmas Day matchups
- NBA All-Star Weekend programming
- Select Play-In Tournament games
- Extensive NBA Playoffs coverage, including the NBA Finals
Access, stars and additional programming
SportyTV says the agreement is designed to make NBA content not just available, but easy to reach across modern viewing habits.
In comments on the partnership, Elias Gallego, vice-president of Media, Marketing, and Business Development at Sporty Group, said there is a difference between having content available and having it accessible, and that the deal bridges that gap for NBA games across mobile, smart TVs and digital platforms, shaped around how people watch today.
- Coverage will feature major NBA names such as LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Luka Dončić, Nikola Jokić, Victor Wembanyama and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
- It will also highlight players with strong links to Africa, including Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid.
Beyond live broadcasts, SportyTV will provide daily highlights, alongside classic NBA material and historic head-to-heads showcasing some of the sport’s best-known figures, including Shaquille O’Neal, Hakeem Olajuwon and Dikembe Mutombo.
How it fits SportyTV’s basketball offering
The NBA rights further strengthen SportyTV’s position in top-level basketball coverage, adding the NBA to its existing Euroleague offering.
