Nigeria’s Super Falcons pressed on with their build-up for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations by grinding out a 2-1 triumph over Senegal in an international friendly on Friday. The match was played at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne.
Asisat Oshoala, a proven attacking force, put Nigeria ahead, before Everton midfielder Toni Payne added a decisive second goal. The result was delivered under the guidance of head coach Justine Madugu and mirrored Nigeria’s edge over Senegal throughout the contest.
Madugu gave goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor the chance to make her senior debut for the Super Falcons, handing the Portsmouth-linked keeper a start in goal. In attack, Oshoala led the front line with support from Francisca Ordega and Funmilayo Ijamilusi. In midfield, captain Rasheedat Ajibade joined Christy Ucheibe and Payne as Nigeria looked to control the rhythm of the game.
This friendly marked Nigeria’s fourth clash with Senegal within the past ten years, and their first meeting since the Super Falcons beat the Teranga Lionesses 3-0 in a friendly back in 2018.
Much like earlier encounters, Nigeria set the tone immediately. The 10-time champions kept Senegal under pressure by dominating possession, driving play into the visitors’ half, and manufacturing a series of opportunities as the game unfolded.
During an early spell where Nigeria continued to threaten, both Oshoala and Ijamilusi tested Senegal repeatedly, coming close to breaking the deadlock, but they were left waiting for the breakthrough.
