The 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) brought another electrifying night of African cinema, television, and style, with major names from across the continent converging at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria, on Saturday evening.
Widespread praise surrounded this year’s edition for underlining how fast African storytelling is gaining traction and reaching audiences beyond its borders, as contenders from different regions battled for top honors in tightly fought categories.
The ceremony was hosted by South African actress and media personality Nomzamo Mbatha and Nigerian comedian Bovi, setting a lively tone that mixed red-carpet glamour with entertainment and recognition for standout contributions to the industry.
One of the night’s most celebrated wins came from ‘My Father’s Shadow’, which took home the coveted ‘Best Movie’ prize following months of strong critical response and audience backing.
Uzor Arukwe secured the ‘Best Lead Actor’ award for his performance in Colours of Fire, while Linda Ejiofor earned ‘Best Lead Actress’ for her role in The Serpent’s Gift.
Before the awards even began, ‘Gingerrr’ and ‘The Herd’ led the nominations, pointing to the range of voices and creative approaches currently shaping African filmmaking.
Organisers also rolled out fresh indigenous-language categories aimed at spotlighting productions from North and Central Africa, a decision that sparked plenty of support and conversation among viewers online.
Beyond the trophies, the AMVCAs continued to reinforce their reputation as one of Africa’s biggest fashion highlights.
From bold, couture-inspired outfits to standout style moments, celebrities turned the arrivals into a fashion showcase, and social media quickly filled with debate and excitement over who wore the best looks of the night.
