Zikhona Sodlaka Tells Moms to Rest: “Your Kids Will Thank You

Celebrities

Zikhona Sodlaka is using her platform to deliver a gentle but firm reminder to mothers: rest is part of the job, not an optional luxury. The actress—who is also a boy mom—told women that stepping away to recharge isn’t selfish, it’s necessary.

Quick facts

  • Zikhona Sodlaka encouraged moms to prioritise rest and self-care.
  • She shared the message in an Instagram reel on 8 July.
  • She urged mothers to take at least 48 to 72 hours for themselves.
  • Her advice sparked conversation in the comments, with followers sharing their own struggles and plans.

In the Instagram reel posted on 8 July, the actress spoke directly to moms who keep postponing time off because of household duties. Her message was especially aimed at women who have been cancelling trips or delaying breaks, convinced they “can’t” take them.

“And one more thing. Mommies, Moms, please take that vacation you’ve been cancelling, procrastinating, thinking you cannot take. Please take it,” she said in the clip.

Zikhona encouraged mothers to start small if they need to—recommending even a short window of rest, about 48 to 72 hours. She said that break time can look like booking a trip, or simply disconnecting at home for a bit and giving yourself permission to breathe.

“You’re going to thank yourself. Your kids and your family are going to thank you. Take that time, Mommy, take that time,” she added.

Why she says rest matters

The actress explained that taking time to rest helps mothers come back feeling renewed. In her words, it also leaves them emotionally fuller—better equipped to show up for their families without burning out.

“You refuel yourself. You get back home. You’re fuller,” she said.

The heartfelt guidance struck a chord with followers almost immediately. In the comments, many moms admitted they were craving a break and using the reel as motivation to finally make space for themselves.

One user, @mags_shivanda, joked, “I need 2 months.” Zikhona responded with a practical nudge: “Start with a weekend.”

Another follower, @tasha_yezaaa, shared that her daughter won’t allow her to travel alone because she wants to go too. “So true, I have been saying this… my daughter refuses me to go alone, she wants to tag along. She says she won’t bother me,” the user wrote.

Zikhona met the comment with humor, replying, “She’ll join the next one. Otherwise aku hanjwa tu (she’s not going).”

Meanwhile, @ilovesibongile posted that she was finally doing something for herself and taking a trip. “Oh, I’m leaving this weekend, so proud of myself,” the follower commented, and Zikhona answered, “Me too.”
