2027: Abeokuta North APC chair vows to defeat Iyabo Obasanjo in Owu
Addressing party members at the gathering, Faidat said the unity, energy and strong turnout recorded across the ward had reassured her that the APC was well positioned for victory at the polls.
She recalled being told that the party should abandon its campaign in Owu because Iyabo Obasanjo was from the area. Faidat said she rejected that view and insisted that the APC would prevail there.
“A person advised that we should forget Owu because Iyabo Obasanjo is from there. I asked why, and after hearing the reason, I told him that we would defeat her in Owu and win the coming elections,” she said.
The chairman said each of the ward’s 21 polling booths had promised to deliver a substantial vote for the APC, describing the pledge as evidence of the party’s support at community level.
“I thank everyone from Booth 1 through Booth 21. All 21 booths have committed themselves to producing massive votes for the APC,” she said.
Faidat praised the Ward 12 chairman, Hon. Adejobi Olusanmi, and other party officials for their work. She also called for inclusive leadership and urged them to ensure that no member was left out of party activities.
“Unity must come first, and leadership follows from it. If Mr. Sunday Akintona is our leader, he must make sure that everyone is included,” she said.
She said she was particularly encouraged to find at the summit several members whose attendance she had not expected. Faidat added that she had a record of winning elections and said the turnout had given her confidence.
“I saw all the people I thought might stay away. Everyone I expected to see was here. I am not a party chairman who fails to win elections, and today’s turnout has given me peace of mind,” she said.
The APC leader instructed ward executives to return to their polling units and communities to step up mobilisation before election day.
She also predicted victory for Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, in the Ogun State governorship race; Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu in the Ogun Central Senatorial District; Hon. Olumide Osoba in the Abeokuta North/Obafemi-Owode/Odeda Federal Constituency contest for the House of Representatives; and Hon. Babatunde Tella in the Abeokuta North State Constituency election for the Ogun State House of Assembly.
Hon. Moruf Ajibola, the councillor representing Ward 12, thanked members for turning out in large numbers and urged them to remain united and committed as the party pursues victory in the upcoming elections.
Ajibola reinforced his support for the ward by presenting it with a public-address system to improve communication and mobilisation during APC activities.
He also pointed to earlier empowerment programmes he had undertaken, including providing residents with grinding machines to help sustain their businesses and offering cash support to selected beneficiaries.
The councillor called on members to take the campaign into local communities and work together to secure the party’s success.
“Every one of us must contribute to ensuring victory in the election ahead,” Ajibola said. APC members subsequently restated their determination to build the party’s organisation throughout Ward 12 and Abeokuta North Local Government.
