The All Progressives Congress (APC) delegation in Abeokuta North Local Government on Tuesday visited the family of the late party leader, Alhaji Shakirudeen Ayilara, to express condolences and provide assistance before his eighth-day Fidau prayer in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
The delegation was headed by the local government APC chairman, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi Akintunde, who said Ayilara’s death represented a significant loss for the party. She added that his efforts toward strengthening and advancing the APC in Abeokuta North would remain remembered.
Speaking during the visit, Akintunde said she had come on behalf of the party’s senior leaders and members across Abeokuta North to mourn with the family of one of its prominent figures, popularly called Shanko Alhaji.
She explained that the delegation’s purpose extended beyond offering condolences, saying the visit was also intended to show the party’s solidarity with the family during its period of grief.
Akintunde said the APC leadership had decided to make a financial contribution to help the family prepare for the eighth-day religious observance. She described the assistance as a modest expression of gratitude for Ayilara’s dedication and service to the party.
“Although no financial gift can bring back a departed loved one, we hope this contribution will provide some help as the family makes arrangements for the eighth-day prayer. May Almighty Allah grant him everlasting rest and give his relatives the strength to endure this painful loss,” she said.
The APC chairman also asked Allah to pardon Ayilara’s shortcomings, grant mercy to his soul and admit him into Al-Jannah Firdaus.
She encouraged the bereaved relatives to find comfort in the knowledge that Ayilara led a purposeful life and played a role in the political development of Abeokuta North as well as the growth of the APC.
Akintunde was joined by the party’s Abeokuta North vice-chairman, Alhaji Ganiu Saba, and its treasurer, Mr Seun Akinpelu. Both officials joined her in conveying the APC’s sympathies to the family.
The delegation reaffirmed that the APC leadership in Abeokuta North would remain available to the family throughout the mourning period, while seeking peace, consolation and divine fortitude for Ayilara’s relatives.
