Speaking to journalists in Abeokuta on Wednesday, Dasaolu announced his intention to seek election to represent Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, promising a more accessible, responsive and people-centred approach to legislative representation.
Why Dasaolu is seeking the seat
Dasaolu said his ambition is rooted in a desire to make a practical contribution to the progress of the constituency. He identified several priorities affecting residents, including employment and business opportunities for young people, assistance for women and children, better infrastructure, education, healthcare and stronger community development.
He argued that public office should not be treated merely as a position to occupy, but as a responsibility to serve citizens and address their concerns.
Explaining his decision to run on the Accord platform, Dasaolu said he shared the party’s focus on unity, progress, inclusion and leadership centred on ordinary people. He called on residents of Abeokuta South to support his bid for representation that is open, accountable and directed at the local government’s pressing needs.
What he says he would prioritise
Dasaolu said that, if elected, he would consult residents, identify their most urgent concerns and present them effectively before the National Assembly. His proposed approach would include legislative initiatives, oversight, advocacy for projects and policies, and efforts to secure appropriate attention for the constituency within the federal system.
- Expanding opportunities for young people and supporting economic growth in local communities.
- Providing stronger assistance for women.
- Improving educational prospects for children.
- Advancing infrastructure and healthcare.
- Promoting community-based development initiatives.
He also cautioned that he would not offer implausible pledges for electoral gain. Instead, he said he would explain what could realistically be achieved, work persistently towards those goals and accept responsibility for his record.
Dasaolu said residents should expect a representative who remains available, listens to them, engages with communities and speaks on their behalf beyond the campaign period. He described that as the model of representation he hopes to establish in Abeokuta South.
Accord’s prospects ahead of 2027
Reiterating his explanation for choosing Accord, Dasaolu said the party gave him a way to engage people from different communities and backgrounds while developing a political agenda based on their needs. He added that his ambition extended beyond holding a political title and was instead focused on service, representation, accountability and helping to create a better future for the federal constituency.
He expressed confidence that he could win on the party’s ticket, pointing to developments in Osun as evidence that Accord can become an important political force when it establishes effective grassroots networks and maintains contact with voters.
Dasaolu said Accord was also strengthening its organisation in Ogun State and reaching out to communities throughout the state. However, he acknowledged that elections are determined by voters and said it would be improper to forecast the result. He nevertheless expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious.
He said the party’s task was to field candidates, explain its programme, engage the electorate and secure support through its policies and commitment to public service. Dasaolu added that Accord was working to build a strong and credible presence in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 election.
