The Obafemi Owode Zonal Community Development Committee (CDC) has announced its backing for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola and other party candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The declaration was made at the opening of the new CDC Secretariat and Multipurpose Hall in Owode. The facility was financed and built entirely by community development practitioners within the Obafemi Owode Zonal CDC, without government funding or intervention.
Chairman of the zonal CDC, Engr. Adeleke Adegboyega, said the organisation’s decision reflected its confidence in the APC’s leadership, its development agenda and the record of the party’s candidates in serving the people.
He singled out Ogun West Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, widely known as YAYI, for praise, citing his work in infrastructure, women’s empowerment, social engagement and community welfare across Ogun State.
Adegboyega said the senator’s record showed an understanding of governance and the responsibilities of effective representation. He added that the CDC trusted Adeola’s leadership abilities and his plan to place Ogun State on a path of broader progress and long-term development.
Speaking at the ceremony, Adeola congratulated the Obafemi Owode Zonal CDC on becoming the first CDC in the area to independently fund and complete a secretariat and multipurpose hall without government assistance.
He also thanked the Executive Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Amb. Adesina ‘Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, for his support and for contributing to Adeola’s emergence as the APC’s governorship candidate in Ogun State after a difficult selection process.
Adeola pledged to continue improving infrastructure in Obafemi Owode, describing the local government as an important commercial centre because of its closeness to Lagos and neighbouring states, as well as its substantial economic prospects.
He said urban and regional development would be a central component of his policy blueprint and promised that Obafemi Owode would receive substantial benefits when the programme was implemented.
As part of his contribution to the community, Adeola presented the zonal CDC with 50 solar-powered streetlights, in addition to other items.
Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, who represents Ogun Central Senatorial District, praised the zonal CDC leadership for pursuing and completing the project through a community-led initiative. He appealed to residents to maintain their support for the APC and urged them to return President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; Adeola, also known as YAYI; himself; Hon. Olumide Osoba; and Hon. Soneye Damilola Kayode to their respective federal and state legislative offices.
Olumide Osoba, the lawmaker representing the Obafemi Owode/Ifo Federal Constituency, assured the CDC and residents that he would continue working to attract infrastructure projects and other interventions for communities, Community Development Associations and CDCs throughout the local government area.
Ogunsola separately announced that approval had been granted for a dedicated bus stop at the zonal CDC Secretariat. He said the measure would further assist community development efforts and make the new facility easier to reach.
Community leaders, CDC and CDA executives, traditional rulers, political actors, government representatives and residents attended the ceremony. They celebrated the completion of the project while renewing their commitment to community development and accountable governance.
