Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Adeola, widely known as Yayi, will lead the campaign structure, with Senator Lekan Mustapha serving as its Director-General.
Otunba Dare Odufowokan has been selected to chair the Public Communications Committee, giving him responsibility for the campaign’s media operations, messaging and engagement with the public.
The appointments come as political mobilisation gathers pace ahead of the 2027 elections. Parties and their candidates are placing increasing emphasis on how they present their programmes, record in office and promises to voters.
The APC Support Groups Council in Ogun State has welcomed Odufowokan’s appointment, describing him as a suitable choice to oversee the campaign’s communications work.
In its assessment, the council pointed to his experience in public communication, knowledge of Ogun’s political landscape and ability to explain issues in ways that connect with residents.
The council said the decision was well timed, arguing that the campaign needs a spokesperson capable of setting out the party’s position plainly and responding promptly to new political developments and narratives.
It added that Odufowokan’s professional background and experience could strengthen the campaign’s handling of public communication as the shape of the 2027 contest becomes clearer.
The communications committee is expected to act as the principal link between the campaign team and the media. Its work will include sharing details of campaign activities, clarifying policy matters and drawing attention to the achievements and initiatives of the APC-led administration.
It will also be responsible for organising the party’s replies to criticism, allegations and rival narratives that emerge during the election period.
The formation of the campaign council forms part of the APC’s wider attempt to reinforce its political machinery before the elections.
With Abiodun and Senator Yayi at the top of the structure and Senator Mustapha overseeing its daily operations as Director-General, the council brings together prominent party figures and other political stakeholders.
Odufowokan’s appointment further underlines the value the party places on communication as the 2027 political cycle gains momentum.
Political observers say a campaign’s ability to deliver clear and regular messages can have a major effect on how the public views it. That challenge is especially significant in an increasingly digital environment, where political claims and counterclaims can move quickly through both conventional and social media.
In his new role, Odufowokan is expected to organise the campaign’s messaging system and help ensure that the party communicates in a coordinated and uniform manner.
His duties are likely to cover dealings with journalists, public information, campaign content, strategic communications and cooperation with other party and campaign bodies involved in communications.
The assignment also gives him a central role in making the APC’s case to voters and challenging what the party regards as false or deceptive accounts during the electioneering period.
The move is expected to improve links among the campaign organisation, journalists, media outlets, party supporters and the broader electorate.
The presentation of the council represents another significant stage in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 Ogun State elections.
As the campaign develops, the party is expected to put its machinery into operation across the state’s three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies and 20 local government areas.
The APC Support Groups Council said Odufowokan’s appointment was a significant element of the developing campaign framework.
It argued that a clear message, strong coordination and an effective grassroots network would place the organisation in a better position to explain its agenda and build support throughout Ogun State.
With political activity continuing to intensify ahead of 2027, attention will turn to how the campaign council is activated and the methods it adopts to strengthen the APC’s position in the state.
