Scores of youths and students in Ogun State joined a solidarity walk organised by the Youths and Students Movement (YPM) to signal support for key figures of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. Participants used the event to reaffirm backing for Governor Dapo Abiodun’s senatorial ambitions and for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the APC governorship candidate in Ogun.
The mobilisation, which drew a large turnout, was presented as a show of unity and political commitment as preparations for the 2027 polls build. The demonstrators converged at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto, gathering alongside party supporters and APC leaders before setting off on a peaceful march through major roads. Throughout the walk, attendees carried banners and placards and chanted slogans highlighting confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, while also praising Senator Adeola for what they described as his contributions to grassroots development.
Addressing the crowd, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, the movement’s convener, said the purpose of the solidarity trek was to encourage young people to stay actively engaged in democratic processes while reaffirming their dedication to APC ideals. He described the walk as being in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly referred to as Yayi.
Akintunde added that Senator Adeola had made significant impacts on the lives of young people across Ogun State through empowerment programmes and other development initiatives. He argued that there were strong reasons to back the senator, insisting that by 2027 Adeola would secure a decisive victory. He pointed to what he characterised as the results of President Tinubu’s reforms over the past three years, alongside Senator Yayi’s record in empowerment efforts, infrastructure development and constituency projects, saying those achievements continued to motivate many young people to support the leadership.
Speaking as co-convener of YPM, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye said the movement remained committed to advancing APC principles. He described Senator Olamilekan Adeola as both the group’s leader and its governorship candidate, and urged residents across Ogun State to continue backing policies and programmes intended to boost economic activity, expand job opportunities and raise living standards in the state.
The Youths and Students Wing characterised the solidarity trek as orderly and peaceful, saying it was designed to strengthen unity, encourage political participation and sustain youth involvement ahead of the 2027 elections.
