The Tejuoso-led Friends Network has taken its grassroots consultations and campaign for All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, to communities in Ogun State, engaging leaders, traders, young people and other residents on local development priorities.
Grassroots consultations across Ogun
The organisation said the outreach forms part of an ongoing mobilisation and listening programme designed to connect directly with communities rather than confine political engagement to formal meetings.
It said the latest round followed consultations conducted in all six local government areas of Ogun Central. The engagements in Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North were presented as part of the network’s effort to build direct channels of communication with residents.
Speaking at the meetings, Tejuoso said community participation should help determine the priorities of future administrations. He said development planning had to start with listening to residents, recording their concerns and ensuring those concerns were included in discussions about Ogun State’s future.
Discussions with Community Development Committee (CDC) representatives covered a range of needs, including:
- Roads and access routes;
- Reliable drinking-water supply;
- Schools and other educational facilities;
- Healthcare services;
- Youth empowerment and wider economic opportunities;
- Community security; and
- Other essential infrastructure.
Tejuoso said the issues raised were being compiled for presentation to relevant political figures and other stakeholders.
Case for Adeola and political rotation
The Friends Network used the meetings to promote Adeola’s candidacy for the 2027 Ogun governorship election. Adeola is the APC’s candidate for the contest, and Tejuoso said his supporters regard him as an experienced legislator with a record of community-focused interventions.
Tejuoso said the group was presenting Adeola’s past work and policy agenda while giving residents the opportunity to examine matters affecting them. He described the campaign as one centred on performance and the results that purposeful leadership could deliver.
He also argued that the question of rotation among Ogun State’s three senatorial districts should remain part of the political debate. In his view, Ogun West has not produced an elected governor since the state was created, and no district should continue to control the office beyond an eight-year period.
Tejuoso said the principle of fairness required consideration of Ogun West’s exclusion from the governorship, arguing that the state should avoid establishing a pattern in which one senatorial district repeatedly retains the position.
Appeal for APC support and community accountability
Tejuoso called on supporters to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, saying continuity at the federal level would help preserve ongoing economic reforms. He said coordination among federal, state and local authorities could make it easier to deliver development projects.
He urged residents to understand proposed government programmes and participate actively in democratic processes. He also asked members and supporters to vote for APC candidates across the ballot in 2027, arguing that this would produce closer political alignment between the executive and legislative branches and, in the network’s assessment, improve project execution.
The former governorship aspirant said CDC officials and other participants had been encouraged to identify concrete local problems instead of allowing the discussions to become purely political gatherings. He said the network intended to keep a record of the issues raised so residents could later ask what action had been taken.
The concerns restated by the network included roads, water, schools, medical services, security and economic empowerment.
The organisation also urged residents to prepare for participation in the elections by checking that their voter registration details and Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were in order.
It asked community leaders, young people, market associations and other groups to continue recording local needs and contributing to public conversations about governance. Tejuoso said politics should extend beyond election day, with communities engaged before, during and after elections and leaders held to the promises they make.
Participation in Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North
The Friends Network thanked CDC leaders and members in Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North for their reception and involvement during the consultations.
Those present included Hon. Seye Bajomo, Mr. Komolafe, Engr. (Comr.) Kenny Edu and Hon. Ojoye Olaseinde, among others.
