The YAYI Ni Wura Alliance Movement (Y.A.M.) has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola’s bid for governor of Ogun State, while promising to expand its grassroots operations across the state.
The sociopolitical organisation said its membership is increasing as former backers of opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), join its campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a press briefing in Ogun State on Thursday, the movement’s Director of Media and Publicity, Comrade Wasiu Adekunle Adejumo, also known as Westo, said people from various political backgrounds had united behind Tinubu and Adeola.
Adejumo said Y.A.M. was created as a common platform for individuals who share those political aims, regardless of their former party affiliations.
He said some members had previously supported opposition forces, while others had come from the All Progressives Congress (APC), PDP and ADC.
Adejumo added that former members of an organisation associated with a serving PDP senatorial candidate had also moved into the alliance.
He explained that the decision to unite was driven by the members’ desire to back Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, known as YAYI, in Ogun and secure another term for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The movement’s State Coordinator, Comrade Akeem Shodiya, said the organisation was formed to build support for Tinubu, Adeola and other APC candidates before the 2027 polls.
Shodiya said the alliance would welcome people from other political platforms who wanted to become part of its campaign network.
He said the organisation had settled on its political course but remained open to all supporters willing to join its ranks.
Alliance plans mobilisation across Ogun
Beyond political campaigning, the group said it planned to pursue community engagement and empowerment projects.
Adejumo pointed to a medical outreach held at State Hospital, Ijaye, as one of the initiatives carried out by the movement in line with its objectives.
He also referred to Adeola’s legislative record and constituency projects, especially his work as a senator and his role as chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
The alliance made claims at the briefing about the reach and effect of those interventions, but the information provided did not independently quantify them.
Y.A.M. also backed the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, identifying infrastructure development and economic reforms as policies it believes should continue.
Westo conceded that the administration still faced issues requiring action, but maintained that the government was responding to some of the difficulties affecting the country.
Group attacks opposition politicians
Opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party politician Peter Obi, were also criticised during the briefing.
Westo said the alliance supported neither politician and raised questions about elements of Obi’s policy platform and his public comments.
He spoke harshly about Obi and said Y.A.M. regarded Tinubu’s government as a better option than the alternatives represented by the opposition figures mentioned.
Those comments reflected the alliance’s political viewpoint and were not an independently verified evaluation.
Westo said the group supported Tinubu and every APC candidate in Ogun, naming Senator YAYI, Senator Shuaib Salisu, who is seeking another term representing Ogun Central in the Senate, and Olumide Osoba among those receiving its backing.
Y.A.M. sets 100,000-vote target
The alliance said it would campaign for APC candidates throughout Ogun State and continue with empowerment efforts rooted in local communities.
Its officials set a goal of securing 100,000 votes for APC candidates across the state. That number is an internal mobilisation objective announced by the organisation, rather than an independent forecast of electoral support.
The announcement comes as political groups and support organisations increase their grassroots work ahead of the 2027 elections. Under INEC’s current schedule, presidential and National Assembly voting is set for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections are due on February 6, 2027.
Ogun politics gains wider 2027 significance
Those attending the briefing included alliance officials and stakeholders such as Senatorial Leader Hon. Gbenga Adewale; Hon. Joseph Akintunde of Ogun West; Alhaji Segun Saula of Ogun East; Hon. Kehinde Oluyooye of Ijebu North East; Comrade Moshood Ogundare, known as Oyinbo Iyabo; Hon. Mrs Funke of Obafemi-Owode; and Hon. Toyin Kajogbola of Abeokuta North, among others.
The event also acknowledged the group’s Director-General, Dr. Iziak Salako, who is the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare.
As the 2027 electoral timetable becomes established, the rise of organisations such as Y.A.M. adds to the growing network of political support groups seeking to shape voter mobilisation and campaign activity in Ogun State.
