APC governorship candidate Yayi has pledged a bus and N50 million to the Central Coordinate Movement (CCM), saying the support will help the grassroots organisation coordinate its activities ahead of the 2027 election cycle in Ogun State.
Key takeaways
- The commitment was announced during a Friday meeting in Abeokuta with CCM leaders and members.
- Yayi praised the organisation’s mobilisation work and its backing for his bid to become governor.
- CCM chairman Taiwo Elewide was singled out for his leadership and continuing support for the APC campaign.
- Elewide said the group would preserve its unity and continue mobilising members as the 2027 elections draw closer.
Support for grassroots mobilisation
Speaking in Abeokuta, Yayi recognised the effort that CCM members and its leadership had invested in building support for his governorship ambition. He said the proposed assistance was designed to expand the movement’s operations and allow members to organise their engagements more effectively as the APC moves towards a more active campaign period.
Yayi thanked the organisation for standing behind him, stressing that local-level mobilisation would remain central to the campaign as political activity increases throughout Ogun State.
He gave particular credit to CCM chairman Alhaji Taiwo Elewide, also known as Big Champion Akile Egbaland, for his direction of the movement and sustained support for the APC effort. Elewide has recently been described as an influential grassroots operator within Yayi’s campaign structure.
Yayi said the movement’s backing had been important and commended Elewide for his dedication. He added that the promised vehicle and funds were intended to help CCM implement its programmes and improve the coordination of its work before the APC campaign gets fully under way.
“I sincerely thank the Central Coordinate Movement for its consistent support, as well as your chairman, Chief Taiwo Elewide, for his commitment and hard work,” Yayi said.
He then announced: “I will provide a bus and N50 million for CCM’s activities. I am confident that this will assist your mobilisation efforts and other engagements as we get ready for the campaign.”
CCM response
The meeting also enabled CCM officials and members to restate their allegiance to Yayi and to consider how grassroots organisations could contribute to the political activities ahead.
In his response, Elewide thanked Yayi for acknowledging the movement’s work. He pledged that CCM would continue collaborating with relevant stakeholders in pursuit of its objectives.
Elewide further said the organisation would remain focused on mobilising its members and preserving cohesion as the 2027 elections approach.
