Appeal for traditional support
Ibrahim, who brought members of the group to meet the monarch on Wednesday, said the visit formed part of a wider effort to engage traditional institutions and grassroots actors before the 2027 elections.
He portrayed Senator Yayi as a public figure committed to Ogun State’s progress, pointing to what he described as a range of infrastructure and empowerment initiatives.
As the founder of Zee 1 for Yayi, Ibrahim said the senator’s interventions had reached communities in several parts of the state. He argued that Yayi’s work in infrastructure and other areas justified popular backing.
Ibrahim asked Oba Adediran to publicly support the campaign and assist in explaining Yayi’s plans and political outlook to the people of Owu Akinale.
He said traditional rulers continued to carry considerable weight in influencing community views and organising local support, making their involvement significant to the prospects of any political project.
He also asked the monarch to help “preach the gospel” of Yayi to residents of Owu Akinale. Ibrahim added that his organisation would maintain its outreach to communities throughout Ogun State.
Monarch backs Yayi and calls for issue-based politics
In his response, the Towulade of Akinale, Oba Oluseyi Adediran, said he had once been a committed supporter of Senator Yayi and had no regrets about making that choice.
“I was once a strong supporter of Yayi, and I have no regret about it. I support him because he has been doing great things in the state. Yayi is an achiever,” the monarch said.
Oba Adediran explained that his position reflected what he regarded as Yayi’s clear contributions to Ogun’s development. He said his judgment was based on projects and initiatives he had personally seen.
The monarch maintained that support for candidates should be determined by their record, plans and public contributions, rather than by party or other political loyalties alone.
He appealed to politicians and their backers to communicate with citizens peacefully and responsibly as political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections gathers pace.
The Towulade also highlighted the responsibility of traditional leaders to foster peace, solidarity and accountable political engagement in their communities.
He urged political participants to base their campaigns on concrete issues, with emphasis on policies and programmes that could improve people’s welfare and everyday living conditions.
