The YPM has inaugurated a 300-member campaign council in Iperu, Ogun State, as it begins preparations for the 2027 elections, appointing former two-term House of Representatives member Hon. Kehinde Odeneye as the council’s Director-General.
Campaign council formally launched
The inauguration took place on Saturday at the YPM grounds in Iperu. It brought together the movement’s top leadership, members of its state executive, local government coordinators and other members appointed to the new campaign body.
Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, the movement’s convener, said the appointments recognised members’ dedication to YPM and the roles they had played in building the organisation.
He said the selection process should not be interpreted as disregarding the efforts of other members. Instead, he described the appointments as an acknowledgement of people whose sustained participation and service had qualified them for the assignments.
- Akintunde asked the Director-General and council members to cooperate in delivering the movement’s goals.
- He identified grassroots outreach, increasing membership and strengthening internal cohesion as key priorities.
- He announced plans for a major rally in Ogun East.
- He also said inauguration events would be held for YPM’s artisan, student, women and youth wings.
- Committee members, especially those handling mobilisation and local government coordination, were urged to increase outreach and encourage unity before the scheduled programmes.
Focus on polling-unit organisation
Hon. Olusegun Kaka, the YPM state coordinator, said the organisation needed to deepen its footing in communities across the state.
Kaka called on members to engage directly with residents and establish effective polling-unit coordination in advance of the 2027 polls. He said responsibility for pursuing YPM’s political ambitions did not lie solely with state executives and coordinators, but with the wider membership.
The movement’s electoral prospects, he said, would rest on members’ shared commitment to backing the candidates it plans to put forward in the coming elections.
Odeneye praised Akintunde, the apex leadership and Kaka for their work toward the movement’s development. He also prayed for the success of All Progressives Congress candidates in the 2027 general election.
