The man who is known as the People’s poet and local musician, Mzwakhe Mbuli has not had a difficult time grabbing headlines lately and today is no exception. Following a string of convictions and accusations in recent years, it seems Mbuli may be about to add another offence to his criminal record after he allegedly poured red paint on his ex girlfriend's black Renault Megane on New Year’s Eve.
Sibongile Mbambo dumped the People’s poet after he accused her of cheating on him and then physically attacked her last November. Mbambo has since had a protection order against him because of this.
A source close to Mbambo added some information on what went down on the night:
“She heard some funny noises when she was in bed at night, but did not get up or call her relatives because she was not expecting anything to happen to her car,” said the friend.
Mbambo got the shock of her life when she was greeted by red paint all over the windscreen and car when she woke up in the morning.
“She immediately rushed to the police station and reported a case of malicious damage to property against Mzwakhe,” said the friend.
The friend said Mbambo, who works for SAA as a flight attendant, told the police she suspected Mbuli had vandalised her car.
The incident happened a day after he refused to sign the protection order she had obtained against him. She was accompanied by the police, went to Mbuli’s house in Mondeor, south of Johannesburg, and tried in vain to serve him with the protection order she had obtained in November.
“He refused to open the gate for her and the police who accompanied her there to serve him with the order,” said the friend.
Mbambo now fears for her life and “She has moved out of her house and is staying with a friend in Johannesburg.
