The 26th edition of the prestigious South African Music Awards, has been put on hold until further notice. The awards ceremony aims to recognize and celebrate musical excellence across all genres, as well as paying tribute to the various facets of music-making including production, engineering and video creation.
In a statement released, they said: "The SAMA wishes to send heartfelt condolences to the families of the two people who have succumbed to Covid-19 and a speedy recovery to those infected and affected by the virus. To all followers and supporters of South African music, we urge you to practice basic hygiene and follow the instructions from government officials: Stay safe, stay home."
They said new dates of the nominee announcement and the awards ceremony will be made public, depending on the president's advice regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
This is not the first event to bite the dust, several events have been postponed as the country is facing the pandemic of coronavirus.
