Minnie Dlamini Africa Day

Wednesday, May 25, marks Africa Day, and scores of people took to social media to celebrate the day.

The annual event commemorates the formation of the Organisation of African Unity (now known as the African Union) in 1963.

The theme for this year is “Building a better Africa and a Better World”.

A number of events have been planned across the continent to mark the day.

President Jacob Zuma is expected to host at gathering at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The president says Africa Day allows us to celebrate our African identity.

“Our country was isolated for decades from the rest of the continent due to the evil system of apartheid colonialism. We are now a full member of the African continent, and since 1994, our continent is correctly the primary focus of our foreign policy,’’ he said in the days leading up to Africa Day.

Mzansi stars are celebrating Africa's unity and strength on social media too.
