“The road to being R2 million richer is nie pap en vleis.” Those words by host Lawrence Maleka rang true in the last Big Brother Mzansi eviction show before the finale, where three Housemates’ journey came to an end.
Terry, Sis Tamara and Thato were all evicted from the house, having received the lowest number of votes from viewers. This means that the top 5 going into next week’s Big Brother Mzansi finale are Themba, Tulz, Libo, Mphowabadimo and Gash1.
Upon her exit from the house, Gugu Bonga aka Terry Treasure told Lawrence: “I think I’ve lost my sanity, but I’m back. It’s psychological warfare, it’s all about mental strength more than anything.”
Reflecting on her journey, the 26-year-old adult content creator and makeup artist from Joburg said: “I had fun. My highlight was the first day. That set the tone for me, knowing that so many strong personalities were in the house. That tested my true personality.”
For 25-year-old Queenstown film student Ukho Samela aka Sis Tamara, being the first to enter the house was an important standout. “My highlight was stepping into the house as the first person, also being queer – I came here for representation and visibility of my community and of myself,” they told Lawrence.
“I feel so emotional but I’m grateful for the entire experience. I’m excited about everything that’s to come because of this platform,” they said, before sharing that their biggest change from being in the house was personal growth and more self-love.
Thato Mokoena, 28-year-old content creator and accountant from Johannesburg, shared an emotional goodbye with her partner Gash1, before reflecting with Lawrence about her time in the house.
“It was a life-changing experience, an emotional experience. Don’t come here thinking you’re an emotional RoboCop – it’s going to break you, then it’s going to build you up again. Then you’ll make beautiful memories and beautiful connections,” she said.
About how the show has affected her, she said: “[Before this] my life was so busy that I didn’t have time to get into my emotions. I didn’t have time to look at myself. It’s improved me because I’m more self-aware than I ever could have been.”
The Big Brother Mzansi finale takes place on Sunday 3 April at 18h00 on Mzansi Magic (DStv 161). Who will walk away with the R2-million prize, the grandest in Big Brother Mzansi history? Keep voting and tune in to find out!
One lucky viewer will also win a Renault Duster.
