Working in the film industry in Europe is not all sunshine and rainbows. Yes, these filmmakers have much more resources available than their African counterparts but that's not enough to bring a film to life.

You need access, support and people who are interested in telling your stories. The lack of these things is the reason why Florence Elomo decided to make productions for the continent. 

She is of Cameroon descent but grew up in France. Unfortunately, the environment there does not foster black storytelling hence her decision to pivot. As part of our ongoing coverage of Pavillon Afriques, we sat down with Florence Elomo Akoa and traced her journey and confronted the realities of the French industry.
