The week we have all been eagerly waiting for has arrived. Viewers will be introduced to season 2 of The Wife series by Showmax, ‘Zandile -The Resolute’ starring Khanyi Mbau as a Main character Zandile. The first episode of the season will be aired on Thursday, 17 February.
Yesterday Showmax held the new season launch at Sandton, Johannesburg. The event was attended by Celebrities and key players in the acting industry. The cast members each opened up about their characters. Khanyi Mbau, as reported on SA411 spoke about how it was not easy joining the already established cast, but she is excited to be part of the show.
Based on the second book of Hlomu-The Wife by Dudu Busani-Dube, Zandile- The Resolute is based on the reunion of the lovebirds, the eldest Zulu brother Nkosana and his childhood sweetheart Zandile. The pair was separated on the day of their wedding when the police arrested Zandile for killing her mother. Zandile spent time in jail, leaving her children who grew up knowing she died. When Zandile is released she has a hard time bonding with her children who only notices Hlomu as their mother. On the other hand Nkosana struggles to bond with Zandile as she is uncomfortable with being from jail.
Since the series is now ‘inspired’ viewers cannot hold on to what they read, the only way to find out is to watch the series unpacks.
Media reporter and TV presenter Phil Mphela, shared pictures of those who were attending the launch on Twitter. Seen was SK Khoza, former The Queen actor known as Shaka Khoza. SK was no doubt there to support his brother Abdul Khoza who plays Nqoba the second Zulu brother. The Real Housewives of Durban’s Nonkanyiso Conco was seen posing with lead actress Mbalenhle Mavimbela. Last but not least Actress Lesego Khoza accompanied her husband Bonko Khoza, who plays Mqhele.
There was a short drama on Twitter after Phil posted Bonko and his wife. The entertainment commentator posted the couple with a caption: “SPOTTED: Bonko Khoza The actor who plays the controversial Mqhele on The Wife has just arrived with his date.”
“His date” didn’t sit well to the actor who responded: “@PhilMphela Next time come say hi. I’d love to introduce you,”’ Bonko tagged Zalebs article about his wife as reference for Phil to read he was married to Lesego.
“Mqhele the character “The Wife” is Hlomu, we talking “The show” here Phil is right he didn’t want to confuse the fans! We all know that’s his wife in real life it’s not that deep.”

Well to Bonko it was deep because he felt his wife was being look down on. We have to recommend how he corrected Phil in a polite manner, but more than anything we love his reference.
