Msaki back in February 2023 announced her indefinite social media hiatus. Speaking on her decision to take the social media hiatus, the singer-songwriter had expressed that the fame that came with her prominence had become too much for her to handle.

Specifically, following the recent headlines she made when it was alleged that she was a homewrecker. This was in light of the separation between broadcaster Smash Afrika and his wife. A matter which Msaki did not address directly when speaking on whether or not she and Smash Afrika had a relationship or not while he is still married legally.

However, in light of the recent Metro FM nominations list, it seems that Msaki could not stay away from Twitter as she believes that she was slighted by the award ceremony.

Metro FM snubs Msaki on
Khusela nominations

On Thursday, 30 March 2023, Metro FM held the nomination party for the upcoming return of the Metro FM Awards. Kabza de Small managed to bag three nominations including Best Male Artist, Best Amapiano Song and Song of the Year.

These nominations were received for his hit collaborative single Khusela which features Msaki. However, in the nominations list, the award ceremony did not credit Msaki instead they gave Kabza all the credit. A fact which Msaki addressed via social media suggesting that the award ceremony was erasing women.
However, Msaki is not the only female musician to have come out against the award ceremony for seemingly avoiding giving women their flowers outside of the female-centred categories. This is as most of the categories only feature male musicians in their nominations including the Best Styled Artist category.

In light of Msaki calling out the award ceremony to do the right thing. This would not be the first time that Msaki was slighted for her contribution to a hit song which earned the producer-DJ that she worked with high acclaim. The first was Prince Kaybee, who worked with Msaki on one of his biggest hits Fetch Your Life.

As reported at the time:

Thursday, 3 October was a night of celebration and congratulations at the glitzy South African Dance Music Awards as DJs and musicians who fill the dance floor and keep us dancing till the AMs were being honoured for their work.

Dj Shimza, Black Coffee, Distruction Boyz and Simmy were among the winners at the ceremony. Another big winner was Prince Kaybee and Msaki who "together" bagged the House Record of the Year award for Fetch Your Life.

Now, there's a reason why the word together is in inverted commas, this is because Prince Kaybee and his team have landed themselves in hot water for failing to acknowledge Msaki - the vocalist who penned the song.

During the acceptance speech, the DJ's booking manager made no mention of Msaki and when Prince Kaybee shared the video of the speech on social media (which he later deleted) also did not mention the vocalist nor correct the mishap.
