He has since apologized for skipping Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes funeral over the weekend. However, Police Minister Bheki Cele is fighting tooth and nail, day in and day out to bring justice for the slain rapper and his former manager.
According to Zimoja Lezinto, Minister Bheki Cele has appointed Brigadier Vela Cele, the very same top cop that put Uyinene Mrwetyana's killer behind bars. Mrwetyana was a student at the University of Cape and was raped and murdered by Luyanda Botha at Clareinch post office, Cape Town, back in 2019.
"Cellphone records, ballistic reports, videos, and statements are currently being collected in finding the killers of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and Tebello “Tibz” Montsoane who were gunned down outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. The two were shot dead after an embrace and were ready to go their separate ways" wrote Zimoja Lezinto
The publication further mention that the KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has confirmed that they have interviewed a number of people who were both present and not present that day the murder of Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes and Tebello ‘Tibz” Montsoane happened.
CCTV footage are still making rounds on social media and Twitter detectives have already made their deductions surrounding the murder. AKA's friend Don Design has been under fire as scores of people have already ruled that he allegedly had a hand in the murder of AKA and Tibz.
However, the police investigations are still underway and at the moment nobody has been reported to have been arrested.
“We are gathering all evidence, and thoroughly analysing the CCTV footage and videos in order to for us to have a solid case,” says Mkhwanazi.
Following not attending both AKA and Tibz funeral, Cele told the media that they don't go to murder scenes for cameras.
“We don’t really go for cameras. There was no need to go to this one”. said Police Minister Bheki Cele
Minister Bheki Cele has also revealed that he had been in constant contact with Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and Brigadier Vela Cele. He also revealed that he spoke with the Forbes family and they were satisfied with his job.
“I spoke at length with the family of AKA Tony Forbes. So why would I have to go to the crime scene? The family is very satisfied. I have beautiful messages from the family, which I won’t read” said Police Minister Bheki Cele
