Black Coffee's career has been on an upward trajectory since he started in the year 1995. There's no stopping him now as he has tasted what international fame is like.
He has bagged numerous awards and nominations and we are crossing fingers that he bags this Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. Black Coffee goes up against Major Lazer, Illenium, Marshmello, Ten City and Sylvan Esso.
The album Subconsciously boasts of a stellar lineup of international stars such as Diplo, Cassie, Pharrell Williams, David Guetta and our national treasure Sun-El Musician as well as Tellaman.
To prove how well the album did, the pre-release got over 100 million streams worldwide on Apple iTunes.
ZAlebs have been showering Black Coffee with nothing but the sweetest congratulatory messages. Minnie Dlamini said Black Coffee manifested this win for a long time and it is finally coming to pass.
"The power of manifestation! I remember us talking about how you want to be viewed, not just the best in Africa but the best in the world!!! Here's to the main stage," she wrote.
And boy did he manifest it hard. He retweeted a tweet from September where he asks God to align him to where he is supposed to be as he is not there yet.
The likes of DJ Sbu, Bonang Matheba, Cassper Nyovest and so many others congratulated Black Coffee. Check out the sweet messages below:
Black Coffee once explained his music transition to Ukhozi FM. He said he does not want to speak too much about this transition, but he will let his music speak for itself.
βOne of my biggest tracks was the one I featured David Guetta called Drive, that song had many streams because we worked hard on it. What contributed to its success was the fact that he has a lot of followers. People will always have their different opinions, they know me as a Deep House artist but all of a sudden they see me doing a song with David Guetta. I needed to show leadership and refrain from explaining a lot of things. I wanted to show my versatility,β he told the radio station.
βI have people I work with internationally when we meet up we sit down and discuss how we are going to do the album. This is the first album that allowed me to work with international artists to this extent. Even locally, we have so many artists who are extremely talented and who show great potential.β
The star's music has evolved over time and it is for a valid reason - he has gained an even larger following internationally so he wants to accommodate everyone. Not everyone for that matter especially if you want him to play at your event. According to Somizi, to book Black Coffee, one must have $100K. Sheesh!
"Then Black Coffee happenedβ¦best surprise ever. To get Black Coffee is a dream come true for us. We love him. He was part of our dream list, but hey, $100kβ¦ we donβt have it," he said to a fan.
