The pandemic has put a strain on the entertainment industry. Several artists have publicly opened up about the impacts of lockdown on their livelihoods.
Rapper and TV personality Boitumelo "Boity" Thulo also recently took to Twitter to complain about the curfew.

Curfew hours in the country currently start from 22H00 until 04H00, unless a person has been granted permission, attending to a security or medical emergency, or traveling to or from the airport.

Taking to Twitter Boity suggested that the curfew be lifted to midnight.
Another celebrity who recently opened up about lockdown struggles is Scandal star Gcina Nkosi.

She told TshisaLive that at some point she was not able to pay rent.

“There were days when I remember the first shutdown: We didn’t shoot, we didn’t work. We have made contracts whereby no work = no pay. We suffered a lot. We couldn’t do anything because we weren’t working, we couldn’t pay our rent, our lease, and all those things."

Award-winning singer Thandiswa Mazwai also poured her heart out on Twitter about the pandemic.

"This pandemic has left many of us with no hope, no joy, no drive to do any of the things we used to love doing,” she posted.

“I wish I could tell you how I’m really feeling but Kings apparently don’t cry, famous people have no right to moan and most importantly my daughter is on here. Mamas don’t cry either! So angazi!”

Earlier this year, award-winning actor and musician Sjava also revealed that he had to move back home.

"We are not getting paid, we can't work ... so this is a very difficult time for artists right now. Truly speaking, we don't know what we're going to do now – our things have stopped.

“I'm even back home because I can't make money. We've been suffering, we're from the bottom – the ghetto – I'm sure we'll survive.”

The pandemic has also taken the lives of many popular media personalities including the late Shona Ferguson.

Shona passed away a few weeks ago due to Covid-19 related complications.

Connie Ferguson reflected on her husband's passing earlier this week, she said it still feels surreal.

Exactly a month today and it still feels surreal. It’s always been said that LEGENDS NEVER DIE! Only now do I really understand that saying and appreciate the following verse in a way I haven’t really before..."

"May everyone who’s lost a loved one find comfort in God’s promise, cherish the earthly memories lived, celebrate the legacy left behind, remain steadfast in mind and be kept in perfect peace, because they TRUST IN THE LORD."
